Backlinks – Private or Public Systems

Your Website Spokesperson

There is no secret that incoming links or backlinks is one of the biggest factors for SEO. Recently (6-9-10) we see a bunch of services sprouting up composed of a variety of systems.

Some focus on web directories, others on automated commenting and a few explore the social network scene. Is backlink a bad word?

Promoting

When you first start a website who even knows you exist? No-one, so you know what you have to do? You have to promote your business, just like any new store or service would in the Off-line world would.

Backlinks is what’s used in the On-line world to promote your site. Not only does this help Google and other search engines to find your site, but it also tells them your site might be of value.

So, using backlinks to promote your site is totally acceptable, if not necessary, for ranking high in the search engines. Hey, if you don’t promote your own business who will? The answer is nobody, that’s until you get known.

Public Backlink Services

You will find services that make backlinking easier.

In a nutshell a public service has some sites they own, but they solicit other outside sites that want content to join their system. As their customer, you would write an article, insert a few links back to your site of choice and they will distribute it among the system.

Pros

The good thing about these systems is cost. The cost is generally lower than the private systems.

You can get thousands of backlinks and a variety of anchor text.

Most have article spinners. A spinner can create many variations that are OK for the purpose.

Cons

The biggest con is quality. Many of the outside sites (and even inside) are low quality. This means the value Google places on them is OK at best.

This doesn’t mean that there worthless, it just means that Google knows what’s happening and the grade is lower for these links.

Some of the sites your link ends up on might not be indexed. The site might disappear or it could be loaded with backlinks, these are the negatives with systems like this.

Does this mean you shouldn’t use them? Not at all, they save time and are easy on your budget compared to private systems.

Private Backlink Systems

Using these services is a bit more costly. If honest, the owners have built a infrastructure of sites on networks in varied locations. This makes it look like the backlinks are more natural and valuable to the search engines.

They control the velocity and quality of links put on their system.

What does this mean for you? Fewer links, but more firepower for ranking. Their sites generally range from PR 1-6, the backlinks get indexed sooner and the links have longevity.

Pros

Higher valued backlinks

More are becoming set and forget systems (big time saver)

The better ones build links to your backlinks

They control the sites that your backlinks are on. Overall this makes for better quality backlinks for your site.

Cons

The biggest con is price. For some this is not a factor, but for beginners who don’t understand the concept or budget is a consideration price is a negative.

The only other thing is honesty. I’ll tell you who I go to for reviews, the site is called Linkvanareviews. Daniel, the owner, in the four months I’ve been reading his reviews has been forthright as anyone I’ve read. Check it out for yourself.

You’ve heard it a million times, be diverse. Look at it like Google would, if the links all come from one place like blogs, then it’s just doesn’t look right. This is why many people use several services if they can afford it.

If budget keeps you from using 2-3 services, then a good public service where backlinks come from blogs and maybe some directories would be a good start.

Take a look at Unique Article Writer (UAW), or check out Daniels site for some more ideas.
