Backlinks – Private or Public Systems

There is no secret that incoming links or backlinks is one of the biggest factors for SEO. Recently (6-9-10) we see a bunch of services sprouting up composed of a variety of systems.

What Are Backlinks (Inboundlinks)?

The are links pointing from someones elses website to yours.

They can also come from article, commenting, social networks and other sources.

Why Are Backlinks Important?

Backlinks are a vote, in the eyes of the search engines backlinks are a vote of confidence.

No one knows your website exists when it’s new, backlinks help your site be found. You might ask, then why don’t I just buy a bunch of these backlinks and rocket my site to the top?

Google and others are smarter than that, they judge these links by quality and pace. If you buy a bunch of these links really fast from the same place, instead of jumping to the top you will be penalized – This is called SAND BOXING.

Public Backlink Services

You will find services that make backlinking easier.

In a nutshell a public service has some sites they own, but they solicit other outside sites that want content to join their system. As their customer, you would write an article, insert a few links back to your site of choice and they will distribute it among the system.

Pros

The good thing about these systems is cost. The cost is generally lower than the private systems.

You can get thousands of backlinks and a variety of anchor text.

Most have article spinners. A spinner can create many variations of one core article and for this purpose the spun articles are fine.

Cons

The biggest con is quality.

Many of sites in these services are low quality. This means the value Google places on them is OK at best.

This doesn’t mean that there worthless, it just means that Google knows what’s happening and the grade is lower for these links.

Some of the sites your link ends up on might not be indexed.  Indexed means your site is in Googles database, if a site is not in their database it won’t even show up in the search engine.

What this means is those links coming from deindexed sites are useless as far as Google is concerned. This is part of the game when you use cheap public systems, but there is still value using it.

Private Backlink Systems

Using a better quality private system is more costly.

These private networks are built using better quality websites and are completely controlled by the network. In short, the backlinks from these networks have more clout with Google.

What does this mean for you? You need a lot fewer links to get higher rankings and you spend a lot less time doing this process.

Pros

Higher valued backlinks

More are becoming set and forget systems (big time saver)

The better systems build links to your backlinks

They control the sites that your backlinks are on. Overall this makes for better quality backlinks to your site.

Cons

The biggest con is price. For some this is not a factor, but for beginners who don’t understand the concept or budget is a consideration price is a negative.

You’ve heard it a million times, be diverse. Look at it like Google would, if the links all come from one place like blogs, then it’s just doesn’t look right. This is why many people use several services if they can afford it.

Recommendation

I want to make one recommendation which I have had great success with and is still reasonable as far as cost, this service is called Build My Rank.

It’s not a budget buster compared to other services and the help desk is quite responsive. And while they still offer it you can try them out for Free which entitles you to 10 Free backlinks.

Once you understand how important it is to rank well in Google you will understand the importance of backlinks.
