Understanding Keywords

Your Website Spokesperson

If you can understand keywords better, then you will get more traffic and make more money online. What is hard to predict is how Google will interpret your content.

There’s a lot of information for finding keywords, ways to evaluate there worth and methods to estimate how adsense will perform using them. A tool worth looking at to perform these functions is micro niche finder.

Of course you can still do it manually, but with the tools available today, such as micro niche finder, the cost is well worth it compared to time saved.

Hidden Keywords

You will discover as you add content to your site that words you never targeted start showing up. It’s a natural occurrence when Google does it’s mixing and matching of sites to search results.

This is one reason you want to take your core keyword and then include variations throughout your post.

For example – Your keying baby strollers, you may have a paragraph or two about pink baby strollers. Then you have another paragraph about baby stroller safety and so on.

For a newer site these terms may not be picked up in the beginning. The reason is Google and other search engines don’t trust you. Don’t take it personal, it’s just a way for them to weed out the billions of sites.

This is one good reason to make a post or two each week. This shows Google that your active and building a site, they will visit you more often and some of those hidden keywords will start to rank as you gain trust with them.

Secondary Keywords

You could say these are the same as the hidden keywords, but there not.

The thing with these keywords is you are intentionally including them in a posting and chances are they will be ranked before your core word.

The reason for this is competition. Your secondary keywords will attract less traffic and this means less money. This is OK, it may take years to rank for your core keyword, in the meantime your building traffic slowly, but more importantly your building trust with Google.

We mention Google a lot because as of this date (3-25-10) Google is the king of search. Until the search game is changed, content is still the way search engines know what your site is about.

The whole point to this little discussion is being aware and understanding how keywords work will influence how you write your posts. Some people have the habit of stuffing the same keyword throughout a post. If you use variations of your keyword here and there in your post, you increase your chances of ranking for more words.

This will also allow you to give your reader more information and open the door to possible sales of other products.

Most of the time, with enough primary and secondary keywords, you will have your posts pretty much outlined for you. You do this by making a paragraph or two based on the keyword.

Use baby stroller again as an example, your first keyword is How to find pink baby strollers. Based on this you can make a paragraph or two of content. The second keyword is How to choose safe baby strollers, just repeat the process, I think you get the idea. Your keywords are in the subheading, you just have to answer the question.

Like anything else, keep doing it and you will become better at it. Don’t forget about micro niche finder to help you dig out some of those good keywords.
