Adsense is Googles version of advertising. The simple explanation of how this works is you open an account with Google, after getting approved you get a publisher number.

After you build a website you can get code from your account to ad what is called adsense ads. When a visitor clicks on these ads you get a portion of what the advertisers pays Google for this service. It’s that simple.

How Much Do You Get Paid?

The main factors here are twofold.

1. How much advertisers are paying per click.
2. Where are your visitors coming from.

For the sake of this posting we won’t go into to much depth on this. If your just starting your Internet business I don’t want to confuse you with to much information.

Here’s the key points.

• Be aware that by using adsense you are selling advertising.
• To make good money you’ll need a good amount of traffic.
• Adsense can be a good source of income either full or supplementary.
• and Don’t click your own ads, Google will close your account. It’s very hard to get reinstated.

Google never states exactly how they split the click revenue with us, but if you use their keyword tool it has a feature which gives you and idea of what people are paying to advertise. The advertising side of Googles business is called Adwords.

You will here a range of click fees, to us the publishers, anywhere from 5 cents up to $15.00. Myself, I have had a few clicks that paid $4.00 in the finance category, and I have also had those 5 cent clicks too.

Key Points to Making Money with Adsense

There are numerious books covering making money with adsense, but let me share a few key points so you know what it’s all about.

1. You need to build sites where advertisers are paying at least $1.00 for clicks.
2. The colors and placement can mean the difference between a little or a lot of revenue.
3. Your site is selling advertising – use your content to warm up the visitor so they want to click the ads for more information.
4. The advertiser is paying good money per click, write good content so as to attract good prospects.
5. Your best paying clicks will come from search engine visitors.
6. Over time a 3 to 5 % click rate is standard. This means for every 100 visitors you will get 3 to 5 clicks.
7. Making money with mini sites or niche sites is very popular for this type of Internet business.

The ad formats are predetermined by Google, you have the flexibility to change font size and colors. but not overall dimensions. But, Google does offer a variety of formats so in most cases you’ll find on that fits your needs.

The one thing that makes Google the leader in this area is relevancy. They have the best ads for location. This means if you build a site lets say about attorneys. If someone in Texas visits your site the ads shown will be for attorneys in the area that the visitor is in. They do this by using the IP number of the visitor. So ads relating to attorneys for that visitors IP number will be displayed on your site.

This is one of the reasons that adsense is so popular and that’s why you here so much about this as a way to make money online. Is there a flip side, there sure is and it’s competition.

Every site wants to make money from adsense, everywhere you look on the Internet you’ll see this subject. To make twenty or thirty thousand a month from adsense you’ll need a ton of traffic, it can be done, but don’t count on it right away.

Is Making Money with Adsense the Only Advertising Income?

The answer is No, but it’s the easiest to start with and there is no traffic requirements.

It all comes back to traffic, if you build your site to the point where you have a consistent flow of traffic, then you can charge a flat monthly fee to advertisers. This can be in addition to adsense as long as it doesn’t violate Googles terms of service (TOS).

The common flat fee monthly ads are usually 125 x 125 banners and then some website owners will sell a posting. This is a small article or review which has a few links going back to the persons site, for this the pay a monthly fee.

If your site has the traffic, your pretty much in the drivers seat on how you want to charge for it.
