Diversifying Traffic Sources
As you might know for your business to survive you need Internet traffic to increase. This is like blood to your heart, without it you’ll die, the same goes for your business. There are a variety of ways to get traffic. It comes in both paid and organic (free) traffic. With the millions if not billions of sites and people starting an Internet business each day, you need to find diverse ways to get visitors to your site..
Google is the biggest and the best at this time. This could change in the future, but for today we know Google is who we need to please.
Traffic is one of the key elements for growth in your business. Placing your sites link in areas with high traffic is a first step, lets explore some others.
Different Ways to Get Internet Traffic
Where does Internet traffic come from? Paid ads are one form of getting visitors, here are a few sources to look at:
- Adwords
- Newspapers
- Ezine Newsletters
- Ads On Popular Sites
- Other PPC (pay per click) Agencies
These are some of the common paid ads used to bring customers to your site. On the other hand there are just as many sources that bring in good traffic that are Free, they are:
- Organic (search engine) Google Is The Biggest
- Article Directories
- Site/Blog Directories
- Social Networks (Facebook, Myspace)
- Bookmarking Directories
- Forums
Again, these are some of the common Free ways to get traffic to your site. The point I want to drive home here is diversifying, not all sources will react the same all the time. You want to lay your footprint at as many different places as you can, the reason is exposure. With diversifying you don’t have to worry if one source dries up.
What if your site falls from Googles good graces, what if a directory has technical issues, what if a source changes their policy which affects you, you need diversification.
Getting Lost In Traffic
With so many sites on the Internet, with so many sources to choose from it’s easy for a visitor to get lost and forget about you. Getting targeted traffic and keeping in touch is vital to building your business. As you will read email correspondence is the best way to build a relationship, it only takes the push of a button to delete you from their bookmarks.
How to Increase the Internet Traffic to Your Site
There’s always the question of increasing traffic and getting targeted traffic. The answer is which will be better buyers? Which source will have more lookers? It comes down to good old fashion testing.
You can increase your Internet traffic by going after more Keywords.
Increasing your keywords will bring more traffic. For even better quality buyers you need to find where your market hangs out at. If your selling cars and you run ads at a boat dealer, well what kind of traffic would you expect. So getting a bunch of people to your site that don’t buy anything is not what you want either.
Another way to entice people to your site is a Free offer, like an ebook. From this you build a list and start working on your client base. You’ll be getting more repeat customers and just like department stores do with paper ads you do with emails.
The key to increasing this type of Internet traffic is trust. Building a relationship of trust and delivering what your customer expects. As people on your list get to know and trust you, you then start to offer them more of your products. Use yourself as an example, how many times do you buy something online from a site you don’t know? Not to many times I suspect, why expect others to shop any differently, spending time upfront is part of this targeted traffic plan. Your investment in building a relationship will be monetized later and hopefully a long time customer will be born from this process.
This topic of increasing your Internet traffic is ongoing. For reasons mentioned you always have to keep your eyes open for new places to post your For Sale signs. Since we don’t actually have signs we use links, banners and ads. As other site owners and bloggers recognize your site as a quality place to visit, your numbers will increase.
This will take you into another realm of networking and connecting with sites in your field. This is why they call the Internet the Web, you’ll start to see over time how sites, customers, other sites and people you don’t even know start forming a webbed connection. It’s kind of cool when you think about it and it levels the playing field in some ways for the little guy.
